The 2022 League

These first three games detailed below are sort of like the warm-up games. The results do not matter, but any Warlord Traits or Relics taken during these games must be kept. Your Warlord must also be the same for all of these games and 2,000 point games starting in April.

Game 1 – 1,250 points – January’s Game

For this game, you can take a Warlord Trait and a Relic for free, with no extra CP cost.

Game 2 – 1,500 points – February’s Game

In this game, you keep the Relic and Warlord Trait from game 1 and gain another Relic or Warlord Trait for free.

Game 3 – 1,750 points – March’s Game

Finally, in this game, you keep the Relic(s) and Warlord Trait(s) from games 1 and 2 and gain another Relic or Warlord Trait for free.

April Onwards – 2,000 points

All Relics and Warlord Traits from games 1, 2 and 3 are kept for the 9 games between April and December.

There are 10 players total and I will play each person once, for a total of 9 games at 2,000 points.

We are aiming for about 1 per month.

The full details and results of the 2022 League can be found here.

Deployment

Turn 1

I got the first turn and moved the Stormlord up. Nothing else really moved. I did get my Psykers out though so they could have +1 Save to my Stormlord and -1 to hit to it. I also did Psychic Interrogation for my Secondary. My shooting was OK and I killed 4 out of 6 Skorpekh Destroyers. A few warriors died and came back too.

I came off lightly in the Necrons shooting, losing a squad but then suffering only one charge into my Stormlord, he lost a couple of wounds and then killed one of the remaining two Skorpekh Destroyers.

A blob of 20 Warriors game over to my right flank using their teleport trick with some character too. They were the ones that wiped a squad out but failed their charge. This was an issue.

Summary

It was disappointing to not remove a unit in this first turn, but I was in a good spot at this point.

Turn 2

I kept the Stormlord in combat with the one remaining Skorpekh Destroyer and blasted it in the shooting phase.

My powers went well again and the Bullgryns were on 4++ and 1+ Saves. The Warriors which teleported were cut to shreds, only 3 remained after my Infantry, Leman Russ Tank Commander and Manticore went after them. I did charge my infantry into them too, just to try and get rid of a few more – I think I killed 1 more.

The Bullgryns got out this turn and moved right into striking distance of the Skorpekh Destroyers in the centre of the table. I charged them and the 10 Warriors in the middle. 6 Warriors died and 4 of the 6 Skorpekh Destroyers died – in return, I lost 1 Bullgryn. That was an awesome trade and really satisfying to do after finishing these models recently.

The Skorpekh Destroyers pulled back from the Bullgryns in the Necron’s turn and the Immortals went for them, I lost 1 Wound, that 2+ Save is working wonders for them. The character that moved the 20 Warriors charged my infantry and killed them – it then consolidated into my Leman Russ.

Summary

Having the Bullgryns do their thing was awesome and a lot of fun to witness! They actually feel like they get s**t done. None of this; D6 shots or D3 damage, it’s lots of attacks, always and decent damage, always.

Turn 3

This would be the last turn and we made up the score as best we could after this turn. It was a close game that is for sure!

My Stormlord’s Vulcan Mega Bolter finished off a Doomstalker which I have not mentioned before in this game, on paper it is great. But it’s BS4 and random shots mean that it is very swingy. The last time I faced one it one-shot a Manticore, this game it did less than 10 wounds over two full turns. I guess it suffers from the same issues Guard as at present, BS4 and real randomness.

My Tank Commande withdrew from the claw wielding character and said character got wasted by some Stormlord Heavy Bolters.

I sent the Bullgryns into the Warriors and Skorpekh Destroyers again – and the Immortals. The Warriors died as did the last two Skorpekh Destroyers. The Immortals took a few losses too.

Summary

The Bullgryns got to work again and I think they did really well overall. They did as they should have.

The Stormlord was a decent addition to this list too. With a +1 to hit from Overlapping Fields of Fire, it can really get some work done.  It would just be bad against something that is -1 Damage.

The Bullgryns with their Priest managed to chew through;
  • 10+ Warriors
  • 6+ Skorpekh Destroyers
  • A few Immortals

That includes those that died and got up again and died again.

My final 2,000 points list for this 2022 League is now finalised and is set in stone here.

Final Score

Astra Militarum – 76~
Necrons – 75~
