Hellstorm Wargaming ITC Summary

Summary of my firsr ITC...

Approximate Reading Time: 4 minutes

Well, it’s all done, my first ITC is over – big thanks to Hellstorm Wargaming for putting up with me and hosting the event!

I played three 2,000 point games, I won the first against Eldar which was a close game. I then went on to lose rather spectacularly against a Raven Guard Successor Chapter. Finally, I faced another Raven Guard Successor Chapter in my third game – and managed to lose that even more spectacularly to that than in my second game.

  • Josh, Eldar – 28-24
  • Max, Raven Guard Successor – 11-36
  • Nick, Raven Guard Successor – 7-36

You can see my list on another post.

Game 1 – Eldar – Won, 28 – 24

Eldar List

  • Autarch
  • Warlock Skyrunner
  • 3x Dire Avengers
  • Shining Spears
  • Hemlock
  • 3x Wave Serpents
  • Illic Nightspear
  • 3x Rangers
  • Farseer
  • 3x Nightspinners

I really enjoyed this game as it was close and each of us was gaining points, killing stuff and being killed. The Baneblade did well in this game killing a Nightspinners or two and absolutely obliterating a Wave Serpent on the charge using Crush ‘Em. I also wasted the Warlock on a bike as he changed in and I Overwatched on 5s.

The Meltas also did decent in this game too. They did 17 wounds to a Wave Serpent on arrival. A Tank Commander did a single would and then I used Overlapping Fields of Fire with the Platoon Commander giving Take Aim. Four Meltas at BS2 re-rolling ones will always get work done. A Hellhound then toasted the Dire Avengers that emerged.

Objectives wise I did well because of being able to take out vehicles quickly. And also getting Recon by having Hellhounds run about and using Move, Move, Move.

Game 2 – Marines – Lost, 11 – 36

Raptors List

  • Captain in Phobos Armour
  • Lias Issodon
  • Lieutenant in Phobos Armour
  • 3x Intercessors
  • 3x Scouts
  • 6x Assault Centurions
  • 3x Twin Lascannon Venerable Dreadnoughts
  • 3x Suppressor Squads
  • 3x Eliminator Squads

You know when you hear that Marines are the Meta now and they are overpowered and they are in a league of their own and they need to be nerfed – it’s all true.

I knew some games would be tough but this was insane. I started the game with 6 Assault Centurions 9″ from my deployment zone. There are three Eliminator Squads that can shoot characters without line-of-sight and they have forward-deployed 9″ from my deployment zone with a 36″ range.

So this was just the Marines rolling forward and deleting units with ease. I had no counter. No way of saving my characters. It took me three turns to kill the Centurions and I also killed a Dreadnought – 500 points in total.

Meanwhile, I lost my whole army on those three turns. All my Hellhounds went on turn one. Then all my Tank Commanders and then the Baneblade.

The best part was 3 Ratlings doing 2 Mortal Wounds to kill the last two Centurions. Go, little guys!

This was a good game and Max was very nice about smashing me! He bought me a tea as we finished early and that made up for the three turn stomping!

Game 3 – Marines – Lost, 7 – 36

Raptors List

  • Chaplin Dreadnought
  • Chapter Master in Phobos Armour
  • 3x Intercessors
  • Jump Chaplin
  • Smash Captain
  • Lieutenant
  • 3x Scouts
  • 5x Assault Centurions
  • 4x Grav Centurions
  • Thunderfire Cannon
  • 3x Eliminator Squads

Rinse and repeat! Nearly the same list again and this time an even worse loss. I misplaced my Tank Commanders on deployment because I did not screen them. I thought the Centurions moved when they re-deployed. But they just get picked up and put anywhere, including 9″ from my Tank Commanders.

Lesson learned!

Nick was a very good opponent too and gave me some pointers at the end which was useful and insightful.

Hellstorm Wargaming ITC Summary

All in I enjoyed myself, met some great people, saw some great looking armies and learnt a lot! I would go back to another ITC event and these are run every other month. I may not make April’s but later in the year, I am sure I shall return with a new list and our new Greater Good rules!

Although by then I’m sure Marines will have Thunderfire Cannons that can target characters out of line-of-sight and do 4D6 Mortal Wounds if you can roll less than 7 on a single D6…
