Cadians vs Genestealer Cult – 2,000 Points

Another game vs The GSC!

Approximate Reading Time: 3 minutes

This is my second Cadians vs Genestealer Cult game in as many weeks! This game was against James from March of War. I used some of his bases for my Field Ordnance Batteries. So naturally, I had to take some!

Cadians 2,000 Points List

My list is here on Google Sheets.

Genestealer Cult

This is from memory;

  • 30 Bikes
  • 80 Neophytes
  • 10 Acolyte Hybrids
  • Several Characters

The Mission – The Scouring

  • Control one or more objective markers.
  • Control two or more objective markers.
  • Control more objective markers than their opponent controls.

At the end of the game, there is also an Auspex Scan action to be completed on each objective for 3VP. It starts in your Movement Phase and ends in your next Command Phase.

Deployment

Cadians – Turn 1

I got the first turn, which is always suitable for the Cadians. I took out most of a unit of bikes, eight in total, which felt like a good start. Though they would retreat and heal from back, they failed Morale, and all ran!

However, there was not much to shoot at during this first turn.

Genestealer Cult – Turn 1

I lost my Malleaus Rocket Launchers in this turn. A small pocket of enemies came in and just easily deleted them with industrial weapons. But no Leman Russ were lost and no charges were made into my lines – which is always a good thing for my Cadians.

Cadians – Turn 2

My Valkyrie came in to counter the unit that had come in the last turn and killed the Malleus Rockers. Between them and the Valkyrie’s Heavy Bolters killed some, but not enough. My Leman Russ shifted another ten bikes from the right flank, allowing my Sentinels to push up and take an Objective pretty far forward.

The building still had enemy characters, though, which are hard to see from the top-down view.

Genestealer Cult – Turn 2

More enemy units arrived, and I did not lose a Leman Russ. I was making good progress on that right flank but lost the Sentinels this turn – which had pushed me back off that Objective.

Two more units of Neophytes showed up and swamped the centre and the right flank.

Cadians – Turn 3

I swept more of the enemy off the board, which was good. The Cadians felt like they were putting firepower into the battle.

But the enemy had battlefield control and a better selection of Secondaries – something I feel the Astra Militarum struggle with unless you build very specific lists.

Sadly I did not take any photos after turn 3, and this game was a few weeks ago, so I am struggling to remember how the rest of it played out.

Final Score

Astra Militarum – 56
Genestealer Cult – 81

Genestealer Cult Victory
