Cadians vs Genestealer Cult – 2,000 Points – 10th Edition
My first game of Warhammer 40K 10th Edition!
My first game of 10th Edition Warhammer 40K is done, Cadians vs Genestealer Cult, a couple of weeks ago now this was. My memory might be slightly off with how it played out, but the summary remains accurate.
The second was against Blood Angels, and the third was against Imperial Knights.
At the time of writing, a few weeks after this game, I am now up to playing three Warhammer 40K 10th Edition games. With each game, I have progressively got better and enjoyed it more…

Only War – Mission
Deployment
I used the flags I recently painted for the objective markers. The clear ones I usually use are in my old Codex, and I keep forgetting to remove them from there; on the bookshelf and put them in my new Warhammer 40K Rulebook.
Genestealer Cult – Turn 1
The left flank was swamped pretty quickly by Genestealers and the Bikes. I lost a good chunk of a squad of 20 and two Sentinels.
Cadians – Turn 1
I Fell Back with the Sentinels; the Bikes then shifted up using some shenanigans and dealt me Mortal Wounds, killing that last Sentinel.
I did manage to hit those bikes back pretty hard, though, with my Demolisher Leman Rus, killing all but two of them.
The Genestealers all died, too, along with the Patriarch leading them.
The Vindicare sniped an enemy character, but he could shift those wounds onto the Neophytes in his squad, saving the character from taking any damage at all.
Summary
Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos for the rest of the game. We only got to turn three because of time. It was slow trying to get through all the abilities on the datasheets.
The Stratagem bloat has gone, but it will continue to be slow until I learn the rules for each unit.
My next game was against Blood Angels, and that was smoother, and I knew my rules a lot better in that game. Between this game and that second game, I think that this is my biggest takeaway…
The armies play differently now and that is frustrating after collecting Imperial Guard now for nine years and getting used to them in 7th, then 8th and 9th Edition. But, I learnt after this game and in the second game. I think it will take some time for the kinks to be ironed out and for this new Guard to feel like Guard again for me… but I am hopeful.
We called the game a draw because of time, and despite the GSC being ahead in points when we stopped playing.
Final Score
Astra Militarum – ~2
Genestealer Cult – ~4
~Draw~
