Taurox Wheel Conversion From Victoria Miniatures
Lets take a look at this amazing Taurox Wheel Conversion kit....
Let’s lead with an image shall we of theĀ Taurox Wheel Conversion from Victoria Miniatures. Because I am sure the header image will be cropped in some odd way….
Update Feb 2018
There is now a simpler version of this conversion kit availableĀ from Victoria Miniatures, called the Gamer Edition. I have not used this kit but from the look of it – it seems like you lose some of the detail and the realism of the wishbones and axels in exchange for a more sturdy construction.

OK so now the eye candy is out of the way – what of the kit……
Taurox Wheel Conversion From Victoria Miniatures
The kit isĀ available from Victoria MiniaturesĀ (in Australia)Ā and it really is excellent. I have had it for over a year and its taken me this long to get around to constructing the Taurox and putting this custom wheel set up. There are now other conversion kits available from Zinge Industries (in the UK) and Blood & Skulls Industry (in the USA). But over a year ago I think this was the only one so I got it shipped halfway around the world from Australia to the UK!
So it was not immediately obvious how this went together. My knowledge of cars and the automotive world is zero, I can drive one, but thatsĀ it.
ThisĀ image from the Victoria Miniatures web site was a big help as it shows how the wishbones are used on the front wheels. There are two on each side, the one you can clearly see and another directly below it out of view.
It’s also worth noting that the two slightly lighter wishbones are shorter than their darker counterparts. This is because theseĀ shorter versions go on first and are forced slightly in towards the wheel and so need to shorter to stop the wheel being at an angle. This image shows the lighter wishbone at the bottom and allows the “axle” where the wheel is glued to be vertical, if both wishbones were the same length then the bottom one in the photo would force the axle out at an angle. This can be done because there are four of the darker wishbones while you only need two. So one (like me) can get carried away and fit the wrong ones first time around!
The housing that the axles and wishbones attach to fit neatly with only minor scrapping needed to get them to fit the original model as seen below.
I had a slight issue with the back axle as seen below in that it did not marry up to the housing very well. But some strength, elastic bands and some super glue soon sorted this out.
Summary
I love the kit, it really makes the Taurox look good, instead of er, crap?
I think I will pick up a set of this conversion for every Taurox I end up with, which may not be many, but it might be 4 – who knows. But now they all need to look this good!
